WebJan 27, 2006 · My choice for this set-up would be an XT Hollowtech II (external bearing) crankset with the non-ramped ring of your choice. This crankset gives you a 50mm chainline with the ring in the middle position, so the outer position should be very close to 54mm. great input! i did not realize that 54mm target with the Rohloff.
WebJan 14, 2015 · As mentioned earlier, the now apparent proprietary Rohloff disc is secured by chainring bolts thus larger diameter than a standard six-bolt ISO. Not enough material on standard disc to drill out and modify to fit. Unsure if another hub maker ever used chainring bolts for fastening ala Rohloff? Also still awaiting a response from Rohloff.
WebAug 23, 2024 · Rohloff wheels are strong but also need to be laced carefully with very even spoke tension. Relacing needs to be done with the same spoke pattern. The spokes will make some grooves in the flange and these could lead to a broken flange - happened to me once. For the full story, see my thread about that.
